Single entry or teams are welcome, with a maximum of three (3) members to a team. The entry fee is $10.00 per chili entered. Contestants may enter more than one type of chili, with a limit of two.
The setup location will be on a first-come basis – doors will open at 11:00 a.m. with judging beginning at noon. Chili must be prepared and brought to the contest, already cooked and ready to serve. Contestants must furnish their own ingredients, equipment, utensils, serving spoon, long electrical cord, additional side fixings: cheese crackers, onions, etc. You may create and decorate a sign naming your chili, listing key ingredients (especially for allergies) and heat level. You are welcome to promote your business or profession with business cards or literature.
You must be willing to eat your own chili.
All contestants are responsible for maintaining the chili’s proper temperature for serving. Bowls, spoons, napkins will be provided by the Eastern Star Scholarship Foundation (ESSF) to serve the general public. Contestants, please do not bring your own serving cups. 1st , 2nd , and 3rd place awards will be given to the overall winners chosen by those attending and judging.
Tasting begins at noon and lasts until 1:30 p.m. Tabulation and winners are announced at 2:00 p.m. or as soon as the final numbers are counted.
Round 1 is TASTE TEST ONLY– Taste it, judge it, and vote for the one you believe to be the best.
Round 2 – enjoy as many and as much as you like until all is gone.
Use your favorite recipe, with or without meat, with or without beans. Meat may be beef, pork, lamb, chicken, turkey, or venison. Vegetarian chili is also welcome.
Each entry must have a minimum of three (3) gallons of chili. Each contestant or team will be given a contestant number. Your number will be visible to the public. Admission will be $20.00 per person and will include a wristband and 20 tickets for voting. Additional voting tickets will be available for $1.00 each. Voters will place any number of votes/tickets into the ballot bag of their choice of the best chili. The more people you know, the better chance you have of winning.
Stuffing the ballot box is encouraged!
There will also be a variety of raffles available to
support Maryland Veterans Charities: Warrior Canine
Connection, Fidos for Freedom, Operation 2nd Chance,
and Check-6 Foundation, along with members of Unity
Chapter No. 112, Camp Springs, MD, Order of the
Eastern Star.
